David Arquette

I decided that I would draw someone famous. So I scribbled out a David Arquette. Then I found out that he is on Dancing with the Stars this season and I got a little worried that I made a bad choice... seeing as how everybody's calling it Dancing with people associated with the stars and I personally only knew two or three of the cast members. But you know who he is, right? From those movies and things that he was in?

Jack Elam

My favorite movies Jack plays in are 'Hawmps!' and 'Support Your Local Sheriff!'. IMDB puts exclamation points in both of those titles. I don't know what that means but I feel like it goes a long way to validate my taste in movies.

Humid/New Routine

Hopefully this is the last day of this routine. As soon as the doctors make their rounds they should decide to send Pax home!

IF: disguise

These super kids were recently conjured up for a kindergarten class. Like a few other folks, I thought the theme fits the Illustration Friday word for this week... so here they are!

Brunswick County Football

Keilin Raynor is a "highly touted" linebacker at North Brunswick High School. Although it's not clear which team will end up on top this season, Pilot Sports Editor Bret McCormick expects Keilin to show up in the paper quite a bit. So he asked me to draw up some visuals. I think the front page of this weeks sports section looks pretty good.
The cougar and helmet are references to the mascots of South and West Brunswick High Schools.

Crustacean doodles

At some point I might need an evil mutant crustacean character. So I did some doodling.

Obsession

I started this for the an Illustration Friday word.  I didn't get around to finishing it for that week but it's an illustration of some crows or magpies who are obsessed with shiny things.

Every Once in a While/Memory

Oops. The right page is a little out of sequence. So if you are like, "They are still in the hospital! Why are they driving a car inside the hospital?!" or whatever, just ignore that one. It happens later.

Pig back, piggy back, guinea piggy back

So I'm starting to think about developing this medium as another style of illustration. Alter ego illustrator maybe? I don't know. Are alter egos a good idea? Is this digital painterly style interesting enough to even consider? I'll think on it a while.

Provisions/Provisions Restaurant

At Provisions Restaurant you can watch the sunset behind the marina as the dolphins play a stone's throw away... at least the other day it was like that.

Pink/White

Gucky (our cat) likes to sit on pink things. She also comes running when she hears loud vocals. So naturally, singing while wearing pink drives her crazy.
Also, the killed body in question is Osama Bin Laden's. It took me a minute to decipher the headline 'Bin Laden killed body in US custody'. I thought it meant that a body killed by Bin Laden was in custody. Not so!

Walk/Busted

I think it's ridiculous that a car won't pass NC inspection because the check engine light is on. The computer said it wasn't a safety or environmental problem, so why should I be forced to pay $850 to fix it? As you might have seen in an old blog post, the misfiring cylinder was a problem at fist. But it started working better even though the check engine light stayed on. Bridge Point Auto couldn't fix it, my mechanic and engineer friends couldn't fix it and I obviously couldn't fix it. So I just left it alone and used the car to get to work.
Until the other day that is, when a police officer snuck up on me while I was parked. I really didn't know why he was walking around Waterfront Park. Then I looked back and saw the lights and realized that he wasn't just wandering around, talking to people. Anyway, he convinced me that it would be a good idea to take care of the problem. So I took it to the dealer and the car works better than ever now. I'm just a lot poorer for it.

I've been Easel'd

easelainteasy.com is all new... and to promote the changes, Breena offered to draw profile pictures for people who wanted to share the news. So I made sure to get in on that because I do highly recommend stopping by to read the comics.

Toppins a Kid

Here's something I worked up to go with my other prints at Ricky Evans Gallery. If you live in Southport, you might recognize the waterfront, but if you've ever been anywhere near the ocean you'll recognize the dangerous seagulls. I like to watch when people come out to feed the gulls but get scared and run away. Seriously though, the real danger is just being below them. unless you have one of those umbrella hats.

Scale/Sermon notes

While Christy and I were at Dry Street, where I like to get a slice of white pepperoni pizza for lunch, a man in a golf cart drove up and parked next to a smart car. The golf cart was bigger and I thought it was interesting.
.
Oh, and the other page is about "It's never too late" or "God measures success differently" or something like that. I don't really remember. I didn't take extensive notes that day.

Body Work

Here is a drawing I did for a newsletter article on body work. Not like work on cars, but like the body of Christ doing work that Christians should do... or something like that. I haven't read it yet.

Webinar doodle

Yesterday I got to attend Doug TenNapel's Manga Studio "webinar". It was pretty interesting and it didn't take him long to reveal all the secrets to how he created his last three books. Being able to watch him draw was great. Posted is what I doodled in my own new copy of Manga Studio. It doesn't really have anything to do with the webinar except for the fact that Doug drew some kind of cat person. So that's where that came from.
Oh, and remember to visit www.ratfist.com if you're into webcomics.

IF: Warning

Here's something a little different for the Illustration Friday prompt, warning. As you can see in this Photoshop painting, Christy is using body language to warn me that my plan involving the baby unicorn is neither covert nor acceptable. [click for a larger view]
